Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS FT have teamed up with GatenbySanderson to take part in in their Insight programme, which aims to build a diverse talent pool for NHS non-executive boards.

The first round is expected to last for six months and starts this month. Abdul Hamied is the Trust’s first placement. Abdul Hamied will be undertaking the full role of a Non-Executive Director during his time with the Board, including engagement in developing key strategies and policies, and contributing to the Board’s work in monitoring and improving the performance of the Trust against key indicators. He will also be involved, as are other Non-Executive Directors, in more detailed work through Board Committees; and is expected to be involved in the work of the Workforce Committee, and the Quality and Governance Committee.  Abdul will also be attending the meetings of our Council of Governors, who have the responsibility to hold the Board to account for performance on behalf of the community we serve.

Abdul is Transformation Lead (Culture Team) at NHS England and has had a number of senior healthcare and local government appointments in the North West.

Abdul said, “ I am delighted to join the Non-Executive Director team at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS FT at this exciting time and to both help deliver and develop key strategies whilst also enhancing my own skills and understanding’

Insight has been developed by GatenbySanderson to give prospective Non-Executive Directors and Trustees from under-represented groups first-hand experience of how Boards in the public and not for profit sectors work. The programme is designed to offer practical help to participants when applying for non-executive positions.

The programme involves:

  • Attachments to working Boards
  • Pairing with a NED ‘buddy’ throughout attachments, joining Board and sub-committee meetings
  • Mentoring support from each Chair throughout attachments
  • Access to each organisation's senior teams and governance structures
  • References from Chairs to support future applications

Jane McCall, Chair at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS FT said, “We are delighted to welcome Abdul to Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS FT.  Abdul has a wide breadth of experience which I’m sure will be very valuable to the Trust Board over his six month placement with us.”
