Children’s Nutrition Team offer top tips for eating well on a budget

The Children’s Nutrition Team at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS FT have been busy coming up with planners of healthy food on a budget for families during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Each week they are coming up with new ideas and inspiration to support families to eat well during lockdown. This means that families have a variety of plans and menus to choose from to get the most out of their food.

The weekly planners have a shopping list totaling no more than £15 and accompanying meals and recipes. The budget was set at £15 so that residents who receive the £15 free school meal government voucher scheme they’ll be able to buy nutritious foods and make fantastic, healthy and wholesome meals.

The weekly planners can benefit any residents whether they are looking for ways to eat healthier, looking at ways to make the most out of their ingredients and foods or looking for ways to cut back on the food shop whilst keeping a balanced diet.

The Team’s first Five Day Meal Planner contains a shopping list totaling £14.88 and menu plans for a sandwiches, wraps and some healthy snacks as well as recipes for mackerel pate and egg mayonnaise. There are also ideas for what to do with your leftovers including how to make an omelette. You can view the 5 day planner here.
