We want to help you split up with smoking this Stoptober
03 October 2019

This month we really want to support you to change your lifestyle for the better. Stoptober encourages people all over the country to break the habit and stop smoking for 28 days this October. If you stop smoking for 28 days you are five times more likely to quit for good.

Approximately 17% of people in Tameside smoke and we are encouraging local people who smoke in Tameside and Glossop to join in with the nation’s biggest quit attempt.

Every year around 2,500 people are admitted to hospital due to smoking related conditions, this equates to approximately £13,095,872 in hospital costs.

If you are a smoker, quitting is the best thing you can do for your health and the health of those around you. Whether you’ve tried to quit before, or this is the first time, Stoptober is encouraging you to become part of the movement and join thousands of people who are splitting up with smoking this October.

Just search ‘Stoptober’ online to find a range of free quitting support including the Stoptober app, Facebook messenger bot, daily emails and Stoptober online communities.

There is also lots going on locally. We have teamed up with Hits Radio who are supporting our Stoptober campaign with an event at Tameside Wellbeing Corner in Ashton Market on Wednesday 9 October 2019 at 10am until 3.30pm. Why not come along, there will be lots of information and advice on how to quit smoking available.

The Trust is also signed up to the next stage of the roll out of the CURE project across Greater Manchester. The CURE project is a comprehensive secondary care treatment programme for tobacco addiction. At its heart is systematically identifying all active smokers admitted to hospital and immediately offering nicotine replacement therapy and other medications, as well as specialist support, for the duration of the admission and after discharge. For further information on the CURE project please visit www.thecureproject.co.uk

We wish you all the best for Stoptober, but there is so much support out there we are confident you can kick the habit.
