Little Abdul-Ellah is a healthy, happy and active baby who loves to smile and play in his plastic ball pit with his family and friends…
His first birthday earlier this month was a particularly special occasion for the family and one that his parents Syed and Bushra Usman thought they might never see after they suffered the tragedy of nine miscarriages over eight years before his successful birth.
The couple, who live in Oldham, had almost given up hope of ever having a child as Bushra, a scientific officer with the Food Standards Agency, explains: “ All my miscarriages were at different stages of pregnancy. After losing twins in 2016, I was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix, so my consultant, Dr Nigel Simpson at St James’s Hospital proposed preventive measures. I underwent major surgery in Leeds and later when I became pregnant I was under the expert care of Dr Pernima Gondane-Sweetman at Tameside Hospital.
“I knew this pregnancy was high-risk, but a care plan was proposed and documented and resulted in the safe delivery of my baby through a planned C-section.
“I have never felt happier in my life than I did the day my son was born. Since 2010 my heart had been carrying the pain for all my lost angels, but it eased and the burden lifted when I welcomed my baby boy in this world. My whole world was changed, and I can’t thank Dr Gondane-Sweetman and her team enough for all they have done for us.”
Specialist consultant, Dr Gondane-Sweetman says she’s was delighted to look after Bushra and husband Syed, as they finally they got the healthy baby they deserved and so desperately were waiting for. “Its always wonderful to welcome a new life into the world and this little boy is all the more special because he’s managed to bring so much happiness to his parents. I wish them all good wishes for the future.”
Hospital Chief Executive, Karen James says she is proud that the excellent care and attention given at Tameside and St James’s Hospital resulted in such a happy outcome for the Usmans. “This is the NHS at its best, working in tandem to deliver and share quality treatment, expertise and care for patients with challenging conditions.”
