As part of Dementia UK’s annual campaign Time for a cuppa the admiral nursing team at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS FT have re-launched their dementia café.
The dementia café will run on the first Tuesday of the month from 1-3pm at the hospital site. The café is an opportunity for carers and patients with dementia to come along, enjoy some cake and a brew and talk with other carers and patients and also nursing staff. The café will also have a programme of events for future ranging from pet therapy to advice from the Carer Centre.
At today’s dementia café patients and carers could play with a new OMI projection unit, which was kindly donated to the hospital by the family of a patient. The machine is pre-loaded with apps, plays music and has a number of interactive games and quizzes designed for people with dementia. Diana Bolton has donated the machine to the hospital as a thank you for the treatment her husband received.
Time for a cuppa is organised by Dementia UK and is now in its tenth year. Staff at the Trust supported the campaign this year by holding a bake off where staff entered cakes and those attending the café voted for their favourite cake.
